Young Calf: The difference between vellum and parchment consists not only in the delicate nature of the skin but in its polish, shining whiteness, its fineness generally and in its semi-transparent beauty not discoverable in parchment. While the skin of the calf is required to produce vel¬lum, it is necessary that the animal be not over six weeks old, otherwise the skin is too stout for vellum and is destined for the tanner. The young calfer the calf the finer the vellum; the most beautiful and sought for is that made from the still-born calf.
Birth and Growth.—young calf whales are usually born one at a time after a period of gestation of about a year in large whales and somewhat less in smaller species. The young calf are large com¬pared with the size of the mother. A calf meas¬uring 25 feet may be produced by a female blue whale 80 feet long. Within a year, the young calf male may more than double its length, and it may be 80 feet long at three years. Rapid as this rate of growth seems, it is actually quite slow compared with that of many terrestrial mammals. A pig, for example, grows about five times as rapidly.See Also Young Woman:RANDOLPH-MACON young woman'S COL¬LEGE, a Methodist-related, fully accredited lib¬eral arts college located on a 100-acre campus in Lynchburg, Va. Founded in 1891 and opened in 1893, it was the first young woman's college to be ac¬credited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the first young woman's college south of the Potomac River to be granted a Phi Beta Kappa charter. It confers the bachelor of arts degree. Enrollment averages 825 annually.
The simplicity of their joy is reflected in the young woman's indulgently submissive posture and the peasant's protective gesture as he is leaning over her. In spite of, or perhaps because of, their everyday appearance they seem monumental and look like sculptures. And this impression is hardly diminished by a number of cubist relics, such as the young woman's hands which are strikingly different in size.
On The Other Hand See Any Young Shoots:These are pruned during late spring of the following year If pruned immediately after their flowers fade, the any young shoots shoots that subsequently develop would be damaged by frosts during winter By leaving pruning until the following year the fresh any young shoots shoots will not be exposed to frost.
First, cut out dead and diseased shoots, then those that cross the center of the shrub. At the same time, cut out thin and weak shoots. Next cut to just above a bud all those shoots that produced flowers during the previous year Pruning varies slightly according to the individual shrubs.
