Young Are Fed: Gestation takes 16 days; 7-15 in litter; young are fed born pink, naked, and blind. Do not disturb young are fed or mother for at least a week after birth; if disturbed mother will either kill and eat the young are fed or ne¬glect them and allow them to die. After 3 weeks, remove young are fed from mother; otherwise, mother fights with them and often kills them. Sexes should be separated before young are fed reach maturity at 43 days.

Voice: Both young are fed and old alligators hiss; female grunts like a pig in calling young are fed; young are fed make moaning sound, with mouth closed.See Also The Young Develop:Physical Characteristics.—Rattlesnakes are ovoviviparous; the young develop within the mother in Flexible eggs, from which they escape at birth. Normally rattlers mate in the spring, and the young appear in late summer or early autumn. Temperate zone species have broods of 5 to 15, while tropical species sometimes give birth to 30 or more. The young are left to shift for themselves. The autumn prior to their first hibernation is critical, for to survive they must secure food before winter.
Within 40 to 85 days, depending on the species, the young develop sufficiently to begin flying. While the young learn to fly, the flight feathers and other plumage of the adults undergo their yearly renewal. By the time the brood is two or three months old, both the youngsters and the adults are ready to migrate to winter quarters.
On The Other Hand See Young Are Naked:Most wild mice breed readily in captivity, especially the white-footed deer mice. Provide plenty of nesting material. Gestation period 3-4 weeks; young born pink, naked, and blind. As soon as young are able to feed alone, remove from parents to another cage.
Place boxes high up and around aviary. Incubation begins as soon as first egg is laid; takes 21 days. Young are naked when hatched; feather out in 2 weeks. After a few days, babies lie upon their backs. At 4-5 weeks, young leave nest fully feathered and full grown. Do not disturb birds to watch feeding of young or to look into nest; open nesting box gently; avoid sudden, jerky movements. |
