Where Parents Have Worked: If you follow the system as it is outlined here, you can be sure of profits. We worked in Santa Monica and Los Angeles, the most over-photographed area in the world, and since the system worked successfully there it should work anywhere parents have worked. There are more photographers, offering more for the custoŽmer's money, in the Los Angeles area than anywhere parents have worked else on the face of the globe. Parents are flooded with offers of all kinds, up to and including promises that the baby will have a chance to get into the movies through an arrangement where parents have workedby talent scouts review the pictures which are taken.
In our test, we didn't offer the parents anything but good pictures at an extremely low price and this is all that parents wanted. We had a standard take-it-or-leave-it offer which looked too good to be true to most parents. We offered ten 8 x 10 prints, all of them different poses, for $10. Reorders were sold at $2 per print.
This teacher asked parents to take most of the responsibility for teaching the sight vocabulary, while he himself taught the spelling patterns. Parents were given advice and materials to provide and play reading games with their children. This method worked extremely well. It was noticeable, though, that where parents have worked parents did not attend the supporting reading-workshop session, much less progress was made. This reinforces our view that regular contact between parents and teachers is essential if a PACT scheme is to flourish.See Also Parents Had More:Children learn first and foremost from their parents had more. In this respect all parents had more are teachers - and very effective teachers they are. Arguably, children learn more from their parents had more in the first five years of life than they do from their schools in the next ten. This book is about parents had more and teachers working together to help children with their learning; more specifically, it is about parents had more co-operating with teachers over their own children's reading. We have chosen the term PACT (parents had more, Children and Teachers) to embody this concept.
It cannot be stressed enough that the school is entering into a partnership, and that the parents had more with whom this partnership is to be formed have their own opinions and feelings, which need into account. Teachers will find it possible to devise a set of guidelines for use by parents had more which they can feel perfectly confident about sharing. In our experience, though, there are one or two temptations to beware of One is to make your advice to parents had more much too complex, because of anxiety about parents had more getting it 'wrong'.
On The Other Hand See Teachers And Parents Need:Most schools launch their schemes by choosing the simplest way of getting a large number of parents together, which is to invite them to a special meeting for the purpose (see chapter 4, page 40). We know that big meetings between parents and teachers and parents need are often unsatisfactory affairs; teachers and parents need may be frusŽtrated because so few parents turn up, or parents disappointed because the meeting does not deal with the issues they really want to know about. But where the theme is children's learning, and especially where parents know that they are being asked to help with it, there is usually a dramatic increase in attendance and in the degree of participation and enthusiasm during the meeting. teachers and parents need often note with pleasure that the proportion of fathers in the audience is also much higher than usual.
Not that we should ignore the teacher's point of view in all this. It is not always an unmixed pleasure for teachers and parents need to have to meet parents in the evening, after a hard day's work, and show the requisite charm and interest. And teachers and parents need have their own anxieties as to what parents may have to say about their work, or about the way the school is tackling some issue.teachers and parents need say:Td like to meet parents but I never seem to have the time to get to know them.' |
