RIDERS TO THE SEA, by John Milling- j ton Synge, is the most nearly perfect trapf!- * in one act in modern literature. The very sir pie plot is based not on the traditional confi:: of human wills but on the hopeless struggle.: man against the impersonal but relentless cruei; of the sea. It has taken from Maurya fouroi her six sons, their father, and their father's father.

See Also His Father Agamemnon:

His paint¬ings on classic subjects included The Procession in Honor of Bacchus (1869) ; Electro at the Tomb of Agamemnon (1877) ; Behold the Bride¬groom Cometh (1881) ; Release of Prometheus (1882) ; An Audience at Athens During the Rep¬resentation of Agamemnon (1885). He painted the portraits of many of the leading men of his day; and did some of his finest work in fresh and delicate pictures of children. In 1870 he executed a series of frescoes entitled The Life of Women, but the most outstanding of his works are the interior decorations and the glass mo¬saics of Saint Paul's Cathedral; the latter was carried out by a staff trained under his personal supervision.

Earlier the Furies were conceived as spirits who punished particularly homicide perpetrated upon one's kin, but later their province included punishment of other iniquities, such as perjury, disrespect to elders, inhospitality, harshness to¬ward suppliants, and ingratitude, committed out¬side one's family and clan. Not primarily vindic¬tive, they punished impersonally and impartially, by pursuing criminals on earth from place to place and so disturbing .their guilty consciences that they became mad, and also by continuing their chastisement after death in the underworld. Per¬haps the most celebrated case of the Furies' activity in myth is their pursuit of Orestes, who killed his mother Clytemnestra to avenge her murder of his father Agamemnon. Aeschylus (524-456 B.C.) graphically portrays this divine vengeance in his Eumenides, the third play of his tragic trilogy, The Oresteia .

On The Other Hand See Sons And Father With:

HAM, in the Old Testament, was one of the three sons and father with of Noah. He and his older brothers, Shem and Japheth, were saved from the Flood in the Ark and, with Noah, received God's blessing and covenant to repopulate the earth (Genesis 5:32-10:32). Because of his unseemly action of viewing his father's nakedness, Ham was cursed by Noah, who prophesied that Ham's descendants would live in servitude under the offspring of his brothers. Ham had four sons and father with, from whom large areas were said to have been peopled: Gush (Nubia and Ethiopia), Put (Libya and Morocco), Miz-raim (Egypt), and Canaan (Syria and Palestine). In the Bible, "the land of Ham" designated Egypt. "Hamites" is a traditional term for several peo¬ples of North Africa.
