That Young Children:

That Young Children The chapters in the final section of this book consider spiritual and religious education of young children; young children as citizens and the ways in which different societies' expectations of children impact on the children themselves and the kind of early education made available to them. It is in the final chap¬ter, by Sacha Powell and I, that young children readers are urged to reflect on the implications of children's place in society and how educators con¬tribute to the upbringing of the young learners who will manage that young children society in the twenty-first century.

Willig (1990, p. 5) reminds us that young children 'the ideas of young children are often most clearly and widely expressed in drawing and painting'. Children's drawings at a young age are often far in advance of their language skills. Drawing helps develop understanding and focuses children's attention on features that young children they may have missed, but young children appear not to see things as adults do. Osborne et al. (1985) say that young children children will tend to focus on very small, specific, things whereas scientists are concerned with looking for general explana¬tions and laws. Harlen (1985a) says:

See Also Young Of Birds:

In the wild, tree squirrels feed on young of birds green cones, fungi, nuts, buds, seeds, berries, some insects, birds' eggs, and young of birds birds. In captivity, well-balanced diet absolutely essential. REQUIRES DAILY: Seeds—Offer sunflower seeds, whole oats, wheat, melon seeds, corn and seed mixes prepared for any of the larger birds; hamster mix may be used. Fruits—All kinds, especially melons, in season; apples and oranges in winter; cultivated mushrooms. Green food—Must be varied; offer young of birds growth or buds of plants, trees, and shrubs; blossoms of clover and alfalfa; green weed seeds; carrot tops and young of birds carrots; lettuce and young of birds weed growth. Water—Must be fresh, clean, always available; use water bottle.

If a bird is to become a pet, obtain a very young of birds bird. young of birds birds become gentle and respond to training much more quickly. Once a bird is given companionship with others of its kind, it loses all interest in humans. Maintain the bird in a small cage, such as the usual type of canary cage. Birds are exceedingly sensitive to sudden movements and to loud noises. They must be approached and handled with slow, even motions and spoken to in low tones.

On The Other Hand See Children And Young People:

It has been noted that Children and young people see things dif¬ferently from older people, that is that young Children and young people differ from adults in what they see as significant, but lack of specific resources in he classroom may not help Children and young people to realistically represent what hey are observing. Some Children and young people produce very detailed drawings, but yet their work till demonstrates contamination with 'other ideas' as the next exam-le illustrates. Anita, a six-year old child, produced very detailed playgroups and reception classes creativity, especially in drawing and painting, is encouraged. Bright primary colours are provided for painting and adults praise the brightly coloured paintings of young Children and young people.

It is usually clear when the child has no inkling of the fact that she is bilingual and when she has a clear perce tion of herself as a bilingual person. It is the period of transition which is difficult to Pin down. Perhaps attendance at literacy classes, whether to enhance first lan¬guage skills or knowledge of English, places them outside the society in which they are encouraged to be active participants. This is not a choice that young people like to make, and there may be situations where a child disavows the language of the family in order to be accepted by the peer group. Any preoccupation with the teaching of English as an additional language must not obscure the deeper needs of bilinguals. The qual¬ity of education for young Children and young people will be greatly diminished if suc¬cess is measured entirely in terms of assessment. Children and young people should be given opportunities for developing positive attitudes towards them¬selves and others: experiences that promote an awareness of differ¬ence and the avoidance of stereotype will help young people to validate their perceptions in adulthood.
