Physical And Health Education:

Physical And Health Education About 70 colleges and universities offer programs to train health education teachers, and the profession is growing. Members of the proŽfession feel strongly that health education should not be considered a part of physical and health education education and that physical and health education education should not be a branch of health education. Some high schools now give a half year to physical and health education education and a half year to health instruction.

World War II brought a renewed focus on the role of the school in promoting good health. The traditional equating of health with physical and health education fitness, and health education with physical and health education eduŽcation, was further perpetuated during this peŽriod. During the 1960's this concept was replaced by the identification of health education as a discipline separate from physical and health education education. The School Health Education Study, initiated with private funds in 1961, had the most significant impact in establishing health education as a separate discipline.

See Also IndividŽual Health Care:

A health manpower report prepared by the National Commission of Community Health Services showed that the U.S. hospitals and health organizations were maintaining the ratio of 150 doctors per 100,000 population only by filling out one-fifth of their needs with physicians from other countries. The demand for health care had also created serious shortages of nurses and other paramedical personnel. Among the solutions being suggested were new methods of health care organization and governŽment support for new or expanded education programs in the health sciences.

Microminiaturized electronic instruments will affect individŽual health care by automating the monitoring of physiological functions, such as blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and respiratory rate. For the critically ill patient, the constant moniŽtoring and recording of vital body functions are often essential to survival. Yet it is a repetitive, expensive, and time-consuming process that electronic devices can do accurately and autoŽmatically.

On The Other Hand See His Health And Growth:

In 1968 the Public his health and growth Service was reorŽganized into three separate his health and growth agencies: the his health and growth Services and Mental his health and growth AdministraŽtion, the National Institutes of his health and growth, and the Consumer Protection and Environmental his health and growth -Service, including the Food and Drug AdminisŽtration, one of the agencies originally transferred into the Federal Security Agency in 1939. These three his health and growth agencies are directed by the assistant secretary for his health and growth and scientific affairs, who is aided by the surgeon general of the Public his health and growth Service.

Since 1920, the U.S. government had been subsidizing the development of public his health and growth programs in the states through grants-in-aid and other methods. The states, however, were under no compulsion to accept such assistance; but if they did, they were required to conform to federal standards and guidelines that were occasionally considered to be onerous. MoreŽover, the amount and kinds of assistance proŽvided by the federal programs often were not tailored to the needs of the individual states. Federal coordination became increasingly diffiŽcult and public his health and growth programs became more and more fragmented. Population growth and expanding technology made the problems of state and local public-his health and growth administration more complex, and the public demand to share in the fruits of the advances of the his health and growth sciŽences increased.
