Parents Spent:

Parents Spent Much of what has been said elsewhere in this book also applies to the under-fives. But there are differences, a crucial one being that much time is spent by parents spent reading to their children. Most parents spent will have experienced their child's enjoyment and their own frustration at reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears for the sixteenth time in succession, and it is not always easy for parents spent to appreciate how much children will gain from this. Nor do they necessarily recognize that learning to read is not just about decoding symbols on a page.

Encourage parents spent to comment, of course, but don't forget that some people have difficulty in committing themselves to the written word, and a few parents spent will be unable to write, or write in English, at all. So it should be made clear that if only the number of pages read, or the length of time spent, is recorded, that in itself is a comment, and a helpful one. Where you know that parents spent are able to write, but seem to need encouragement to commit themselves to paper, try asking a direct question on the card: 'I think there has been an improvement in the last two weeks - what do you think?' and let the child know what you lave written, saying how interested you will be in the answer. Mways, of course, tell the child what you have written where 'ou believe the parent cannot read, or cannot read English.

See Also Parents Are Worried:

And teachers may be quite right to worry about certain parents pushing their children too hard, or otherwise putting some emotional strain on them (see chapter 5). Parents for their part, as we have seen, are just as likely to be worried about not knowing the 'correct' modern methods to use when they help their children. They would welcome advice from teachers, but are not always confident enough to ask for it.

No appointments are needed to see me, especially if parents are worried. Parents of five to seven-year-olds want immediate answers, comfort, sympathy and reassurance. If I am out, the school is organized to provide cover so that my deputy or the class teacher can be available. Appointments are only made if a lengthy discussion is anticipated. This is to prevent 'double booking' and disappointment. As the head I aim to be available at the most crucial parts of the school day - when the children come to school and at home time.

On The Other Hand See Letter To Parents Is Likely:

The letter to parents is likely. Many direct mail experts say that every campaign should include a letter to parents is likely, even if it is not personalized. Instead of the prospect's name and address appearing on top of the letter to parents is likely, you can use a headline to attract attention to the message in the body of the letter to parents is likely. Of course, the most impressive way to begin is to personalize the letter to parents is likely by means of fill-ins or the use of an automatic typewriter. While expensive, these techniques can be enormously effective when you want to pinpoint your prospects.
