Own Small Shops:

Own Small Shops Milan has wonderful shops of every type in and near the big Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and on thoroughfares like Via Manzoni. In Venice, hundreds of small shops selling Murano glassware and all sorts of small, clever items in silver, tooled leather, lace, straw and what¬not, line the arcades of Piazza di San Marco and continue along the tor¬tuous Merceria for what must add up to a mile or more of magnetism.

All American furniture from about 1640 and continuing for nearly 200 years, was the work of individual cabinetmakers who worked inde¬pendently in their own small shops with no more equipment than a bench and an assortment of iand tools. Those enj oying good patronage might lave two or more apprentices indentured usually :or seven years. An unusually large shop could ilso have one or two journeymen cabinetmakers. Fhe latter were either men who had only re-:ently completed their apprenticeships, or crafts-nen recently arrived from the other side of the tlantic. As soon as they accumulated the small apital necessary out of their modest wages, nost of these men opened shops of their own.

See Also Small Ears:

Never punish a dog by pulling its ears. This is as ill-mannered on the part of the owner as shouting, kicking, or striking the animal. A dog's ears are extremely sensitive. They may be injured readily, often permanently, by pulling, jerking, or twisting. The dog is so intelligent that it deserves a show of intelligence on the part of its owner. The ears should be checked also for mites and foreign items such as foxtails, which cause much trouble. In bathing the dog, guard against any water getting into the ears.

Ears: Turtles possess well-developed middle and inner ears, but it has been determined that they do not hear in the ordinary sense of the term. However, they do pick up vibrations which are trans¬mitted through their shells. Teeth: Turtles do not possess teeth. Their horny beaks have sharp cutting edges which make it possible for them to bite or pull their food into small ears pieces.

On The Other Hand See A Small Dial:

The most common arrangement of dials on the household meter is as follows: a small dial, placed above three others, indicates when a small amount of gas has been used; of the lower three, which are placed side by side, that on the right indicates amounts up to 1,000 cubic feet; that in the center (which differs from the others in moving counterclockwise) records up to 10,000 cubic feet; and that on the left can record up to 100,000 cubic feet. The meter is read by taking the number behind the hand on each dial. Thus a reading of 7, 6, 5 would indicate that 76,500 cubic feet of gas had passed through the meter.

Mechanically a watch consists of a source of power; a train of wheels to trans¬mit the power to an escapement which arrests and releases the power flow; a balance assembly and hairspring which regulate the flow of power so that it flows evenly and can be registered on a dial; and a dial train containing an hour and a minute hand which indicate the passage of time on the dial. A watch can also have features which affect its quality and durability, such as a jeweled lever and jeweled bearings at the vari¬ous pivots where greatest wear from friction oc¬curs; a shock absorber as part of the balance assembly; an unbreakable serf-lubricating main¬spring; and waterproofing, dust-protecting gas¬kets for case and crown.
