Only A Small Percentage: Every reservation, no matter how tentative, represents a sale. Walk-in business accounts for only a small percentage of room sales . at most lodging establishments. The percentage of no-shows (people^ who place reservations but do not check in) and cancellations is also small, and many hotels purposely overbook — i.e., sell more rooms than are actually available — in proportion to the combined no-show and cancellation percentage.
The overstay percentage is the percentage of scheduled departures who remain on in the hotel. For example, assume that 120 guests who stayed in the hotel last night are scheduled to depart today. Let us say that six of these scheduled departures decide to stay over one or more days. The overstay percentage is calculated as follows:overstay percentage in this example is 5 percent of scheduled.See Also Additional Small Mast:They usually rose fairly high in the stern, but not in the bow. It was in such a vessel that St. Paul was wrecked on the island of Malta. At first, they had only one mast, with one great sail. Later, around the time of Christ, they tended to have an additional small mast and sail in the bow, and sometimes also a small topsail. These rather clumsy vessels were steered with great oars like paddles, one on either

If there is no mast, it is often flown from a radio antenna on the star¬board side. On smaller boats that have a location for only one flag, it can be flown at the stern in lieu of the national or yacht ensign. It is displayed during the same hours as the national ensign.
On The Other Hand See Hundreds Of Small Shops:Milan has wonderful shops of every type in and near the big Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and on thoroughfares like Via Manzoni.
In Venice, hundreds of small shops selling Murano glassware and all sorts of small, clever items in silver, tooled leather, lace, straw and what¬not, line the arcades of Piazza di San Marco and continue along the tor¬tuous Merceria for what must add up to a mile or more of magnetism.
French Holidays (all business closes) New Year's Day; Easter Mon-l day; Ascension Day (Thursday, 40 days after Easter); Whitmonday1 (7 weeks after Easter); Bastille Day (July 14), the big national holiday, with dancing in the streets and fireworks and fun; Assumption Day (Aug. 15); All Saints' Day (Nov. 1); Armistice Day (Nov. 11); Christmas Day. And remember that during the whole month of August Paris shops are at least moribund. Most of them close entirely and post a sign to that effect; Fermeture Annuelle. Hundreds of restaurants also close for all of August Throughout the year, many high-grade shops close on Saturdays, while many small ones and popular ones close on Mondays. |
