Mother Ship: In ecclesiastical art a ship has been pictured in the hands of Saint Jude; Saint Ursula has been depicted with a ship near her, or as landing from a ship; Saint Me-lanius has been portrayed as lying dead on a ship which is sailing against the stream; Saint Castor has been pictured saving a ship from sinking; Saint Werenfrid has been represented with a ship in his hand having a coffin in it; Saint Anselm has been portrayed holding the model of a ship, as has Saint Mary of Succours (Husenbeth). The term ship is used for the ecclesiastical vessel that holds the incense, but it is usually of Boat form. The finest centerpiece for the banquet tables of the Middle Ages was a ship of gold or silver made as a masterpiece of the goldsmith and termed a ncf.
Gestation takes 16 days; 7-15 in litter; young born pink, naked, and blind. Do not disturb young or mother ship for at least a week after birth; if disturbed mother ship will either kill and eat the young or ne¬glect them and allow them to die. After 3 weeks, remove young from mother ship; otherwise, mother ship fights with them and often kills them. Sexes should be separated before young reach maturity at 43 days.See Also The Mother Continues:Whenever the baby is ready to use a spoon like the rest of the family, he should be given an opportunity to learn to use one. Of course, teaching him to feed himself is at first more trouble than feeding him; but if the mother continues to feed him, he may lose his eagerness to iearn to feed himself.
Birth is the individual's first step toward gaining independence, the first stage in the process of psychological weaning that continues through adolescence. It is no"' up to him to breathe for himself and to make suck¬ing movements that will appease his hunger. He is still very dependent on his mother, yet not as directly and completely as before. To tnis bewildering situation he responds in a hit-and-miss way. By trying out his repertory of responses he happens on some that are useful to him.
On The Other Hand See That The Mother:After school, on their way home the child asked timidly, "Mother, choc¬olate malted?" and looked up at her mother beseechingly.
"No pea soup, no chocolate malted," her mother answered firmly.
At home the mother began to prepare dinner. The child stayed around, asked for water and got it. Seeing that the mother she was going to get nothing else, she went to play quietly with her blocks. Sitting on the Floor she put the blocks one on top of another forming a tower and then suddenly she smashed them down on the floor. She did the same thing five times, perhaps as an expression of aggression that the mother she dared not even feel toward her mother.
