Methods Of Child Care: Sometimes they have a better relationship with their grandchildren than they did with their own children because they have the advantage of perspective on two or more generations. Many grandparents have supplied the love and care that children so sorely need. They relieve the mother of some of her housekeeping burdens. But they are a liability when they take over the role of the parents, alienate the child from them, use outmoded methods of child care, over-restrict the child's natural activity, or cause conflict and tension in the family (71, 1954).
This impersonal authority has the advantage of protecting the mother-child rela¬tionship from the child's resentment of imposed restrictions. Although children are cherished, it is not a child-centered culture; the child is ex¬pected to fit into the adult world. Another feature in the Lebanese culture is the relatively large family circle, which may at once give the child greater indulgence and greater security. Parents are more casual and less self-critical with respect to their methods of child care.See Also Child Care Conflicting:What about conflicting theories of child care conflicting-rearing? Certainly they have a history of fluctuation—from great severity and almost complete dis¬regard for the child care conflicting as a person, to extreme permissiveness and a com¬pletely child care conflicting-centered approach; from good old-fashioned fondling, to rigid schedules and "scientific" aloofness; and from a new intensity of emphasis on tender loving care to a reversion to coercive methods.
Both Linton (55, 956) and Riesman and associates (80, 1950) have described the relationship between child care conflicting-rearing practices and the per¬sonality patterns which the child care conflicting evolves as he grows up. Differences in people's personality, according to Linton, are due "less to their genes than to their nurseries." Several considerations suggest caution in accepting this emphasis on the direct relation between the child care conflicting's personality develop¬ment and the parents' attitudes toward the child care conflicting, the amount of mothering that he receives, and other specific child care conflicting-care practices:
On The Other Hand See Child Care Principles:Underlying principles. There are four principles that are frequently emphasized as basic to parent-child care principles relations:
1. The mother's loving care, based on understanding of the infant, helps the child care principles to develop a basic sense of Security and trust.
Individuals of every age are in a better posi¬tion to solve a problem as soon as they find an organizing principle. Instead of telling the child care principles the principles underlying the solution of a problem, it is better to help him discover them for himself. Sometimes a question will call the child care principles's attention to the principle. Sometimes situations can be modified so as to reveal new elements that make the solution evident to the child care principles. |
