Mothers: On farms, as contrasted to the range, calves are handled in several ways. They may be allowed to graze with the cows, or they may be fed grain in addition to the grass they get from pasture and the milk they get from their mothers. Sometimes the calves are kept in a lot and fed separately from their mothers. In these cases the mothers are brought twice daily to the calves for nursing.
Infant lonkeys that were deprived of their mothers but rovided with adequate "contact comfort" ran to ieir "terry cloth mothers" (frames covered with welling and warmed by light bulbs) in the face : threat rather than to the "wire-frame mothers" i which they were fed. Furthermore, once com-rted by being able to cling to the "terry cloth other" the infant monkey was capable of facing batever threatened him with considerable bel-;erence.
