Ages:

AgesMean respiratory rates of boys and girls at ages one to two were approximately the same—twenty-six and twenty-seven per minute—and showed a gradual decrease after the second year to sixteen at ages seventeen to eighteen. The body temperature, however, did not show such a difference in the rate of decrease during childhood and youth. At ages one to two the mean temperature was approximately ninety-nine for both boys and girls, as it had been during the first year.

This tendency is most marked during the four or five years preceding adolescence. Children tend to choose the opposite sex less and less frequently from the first to the sixth grades. Between the ages of eight and ten, boys and girls tend to play together less and to manifest divergent interests. There may be open teasing and antagonism. At these ages mixed children's parties are frequently a howling failure.
