Mass Education Goodman: Most western countries by this time had consolidated state educa¬tion systems and had had sufficient time to view the effects critically. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, particularly in the USA but rapidly spreading here, influential thinkers and writers in the field were analysing and criticising mass education Goodman education (Goodman 1971; Illich 1973, 1976).
GOODMAN, Benny (1909- ), American clar¬inetist and jazz leader, known as the "king of swing." Equally accomplished as a jazz perform¬er and as a classical musician, he appeared as soloist with the Budapest String Quartet and major symphony orchestras.
Benjamin David Goodman was bom in Chi¬cago on May 30, 1909, and learned to play the clarinet as a boy. His principal teacher was Franz Schoepp of the Chicago Symphony Or¬chestra.See Also Elementary Education:Punahou, on Oahu, was the first U.S. secondary school founded west of the Mississippi (1840). lolani, also on Oahu, is one of the largest boys secondary schools founded in the United States by the Episcopa¬lians. Finally, Hawaii is one of the few states in Union whose public elementary and second-schools are entirely in the hands of a state (the Department of Education) rather those of the counties or communities. The of education at the elementary and second-level is undertaken also by a large number private schools.
It is certainly true that there are differences between the curriculum offered to French pupils and the present form of the primary cur¬riculum in England. In particular there is the complete absence of reli¬gious education in France, which has always been banned in state schools, and the inclusion of civic education right from the beginning stages of elementary education. The situation in England is of course the reverse.
On The Other Hand See The Education Reform:L connection with this third reaction the education Reform religious education has had less common since 1940 than the education Reform more specifically sec-i and denominational terms.
