Lichfield House:

Lichfield House In 1762, James Stuart and Nicholas Revett published the first volume of The Antiquities of Athens, which in¬troduced Periclean architecture to the English world. Even before this, Stuart had designed a garden temple (1758) at Hagley, a replica of a 5th century B. c. Greek temple that was accurate in almost every detail. His design for Lichfield House (1763), London, applied Greek columns to its front. Here, however, the columns, raised above a ground floor, were used as Georgian architects had used Roman columns. Lichfield House does not suggest any Greek building.

There are also notable examples of with an atrium (an interior court surrounded 1$ rooms). Some of these are of relatively ancie construction, such as the House with the Wood Partition, the Samnite House, and the House -5^51 Neptune and Amphitrite. Of unusual design £jt(,er the great villas in the southern part of the ci including the House of Argo, the House of t Hostelry, the House of the Mosaic Atrium, a the House of the Deer. In these houses the t ditional plan is modified. The peristilia (cole naded courtyards), the gardens, reception haj and other rooms were oriented toward the sot in order to take advantage of the view towa the sea.

See Also Upper House:

The private homes of Ha culaneum are of special interest, for they shq a wide variety of styles of construction. A ra' example is the Latticework House, which co tained small apartments for rent and a cent| patio. The House of the Beautiful Patio, bu with a staircase leading from the central patio J the upper house floor, is a precursor of medieval-tr houses. Some of the private houses in Hercu neum are believed to have had two upper house stori"

Catholics are also especially interested in an old house in Amster¬dam whose upper house portion was a secret meeting place of persecuted Catho¬lics during the Reformation and which became a private Catholic church, remaining in use until 1887. It was named the House of Our Dear Lord in the Garret and today, as the Amstelkring Museum, it houses an unusual collection of religious relics and curiosities.

On The Other Hand See Greei House:

Mealy bug h the appearance of absorbent cotton, in little patch in the axils of leaves and on the underside leaves close to the midrib. The presence of n spider is revealed by small silvery patches on tl leaves. The ladybug is a destroyer of insec that are harmful to plants. A gardener can gii mass treatment by strongly fumigating his greei house with a deadly insecticide, but the amatei grower of house plants has to use insecticidi more carefully. He can prepare an outside bo with a glass top and use this as a fumigator, c he may discard insecticides and wash his planl with strong soap lather, then wash clean afte fifteen minutes.

Economic position: One of man's great problems, as a house mouse damages property, food, and clothing It is thought that the common, unwelcome house mouse probably originated somewhere in Asia, but it has spread throughout Europe, America, and practically the entire world. The house mouse is al¬ways found accompanying man in every environment. Although the house mouse is a pest, it does make an interesting and gentle pet.
