His Friend Sir: The picture was painted on the same day that he received news of the death of His friend Sir old friend Julio Gonzalez, a fellow sculptor who used to join him in many of His friend Sir experiments in Boisgeloup. There are two ways in which suffering appears to be taken for granted in tHis friend Sir painting: His friend Sir grief over His friend Sir friend's death and His friend Sir despair of the times unite in a cheerless memento mori that could not have been formulated more desperately by any of the Christians of the Middle Ages.
He was elected president of the General Assembly in September 1949. Resigning His friend Sir dele¬gate post in 1953, he served eight years as ambas¬sador to the United States. In May 1962 General Romulo assumed the presidency of the University of the Philippines. Among His friend Sir works are Mother America (1943), Crusade in Asia (1955), and Friend to Friend (1958).See Also His Friend And Col¬league:The league also coordinates international Red Cross disaster operations; whenever a national society finds itself faced with a disaster need too great for its own resources, it appeals for aid through the league, which then asks other socie¬ties to help. Since the league can ask assistance for the disaster-hit society from all others, no one society is pressed, while all together assure a full response.
A board of governors and an executive com¬mittee control the league's affairs. The member¬ship of both is drawn from the national societies.
When the royal government decided in 1576 to try once again a policy of limited toleration of Protestantism, Henri de Guise took the lead in organizing the Holy League (q.v.), an alliance of aristocrats and municipalities that was de¬termined to prevent any toleration of Protestant¬ism. The League received strong support from Spain. At first the object of the League was to press the government of Henry III, who had succeeded to the throne in 1574, to use force agair the Huguenots. But the League moved into op< revolt when it became apparent that the h< to the throne would be Henry of Navarre, tl Huguenot leader: Henry III had no childre and his friend and col¬league brother Francois, Duke d'Alengon (lat Duke d'Anjou), died in 1584, before he cou marry.
On The Other Hand See Closest Friend:Hannegan impressed President Franklin D. Roosevelt and other party leaders and was elected chairman of the Democratic National Committee in January 1944. In this post he was instru¬mental in securing the 1944 Democratic vice-presidential nomination for his old friend Tru¬man. When Truman became president after Roosevelt's death, he appointed Hannegan post¬master general. Hannegan was probably the new president's closest political adviser. In November 1947 he resigned both posts because of ill health. He died in St. Louis on Oct. 6, 1949.
