hasty. First, do not fail to take a few moments to gaze from the balcony of the Pinacoteca toward the dome of St. Peter's. You will see it as Michel¬angelo wanted you to see it and surely you will never forget that prospect. It would have made the master architect boil with rage could he have known that fifty years after his brother Peter death his brother Peter dome would be completely hidden, by Maderno's fagade, from those who approach St. Peter's in the normal way through St. Peter's Square.

RHADAMANTHUS, rad-a-man'thus, ac¬cording to Greek legend, a son of Zeus and Europa, and brother of Minos, king of Crete. According to another tradition, Rhadamanthus laid the foundation of the Cretan code of laws, which his brother Minos completed. From fear of his brother he is said to have fled to Ocaleia in Boeotia, where the brother he married Alcmene. In the belief of the Greeks, a spirit in the lower world continued the business of life; hence Rhada¬manthus, after his death, was made a judge in the kingdom of Pluto, or the Islands oi Blessed, on account of the-justice of his life had for his associates Aeacus and Minos, name suggests an Egyptian origin of the myt.

"It's just how great Barbaro is,'' Brother Derek's trainer Dan Hendricks said. Barbaro is the even-money favorite for the shortest of the Triple Crown races. Brother Derek, the talented California-bred who finished in a dead heat for fourth at the Derby, is the second choice at 3-1, with Sweetnorthernsaint at 4-1 off his seventh-place Derby finish.

On The Other Hand See His Brother Valens:

Julian's successors were all Christians. Jo¬vian (in full Flavius Claudius Jovianus) made peace with the Persians and gave up all terri¬tory beyond the Tigris. Valentinian I (r. 364-375) redivided the empire, assigning the East to his brother Valens (r. 364-378). Both brothers were harried by barbarian invasions. Valens waged a successful war against the Goths (367-369). In 376, however, he permitted the Visi¬goths (q.v.) to settle in Thrace, and he was killed in a war with them.

In 378 the Eastern emperor Valens appealed for assistance against the Goths, but Gratian, harassed by invaders along the Rhine, could not supply the required troops. Undaunted, Valens attacked the Goths near Adrianople on Aug. 9, 378; he and two thirds of his army were lost in the battle.
