Criminal Activities:

Criminal Activities When the Whigs went out of office he remained in Parlia¬ment, where he pleaded the necessity of a re¬vision of the criminal activities code, with a view to the limitation of capital punishment, and a more appropriate regulation of the scale of penalties. To his exertions may be traced the final de¬termination of the executive to the reform and condensation of the various acts in regard to crime, effected under the superintendence of Sir Robert Peel. After a lifetime spent in securing mitigation of the criminal activities laws, he died by his own hand.

REWARD, re-word', a recompense of by government, an organization, or an indiv to a person or persons who will perform a s fied act, such 'as the return of lost proj the apprehension of a criminal activities or criminal activities the rendering of some service contributing t good of the general public. The offer ma made verbally, in writing, or through some medium as the newspapers, and may be aco by anyone who sees or hears of the offer, an offer upon condition, and therefore doe: become a binding contract until the terms been fulfilled. When the act is such that r» more persons working independently fulfil] contract, only the first one to do so (whid: be established as a matter of fact) is entitli the reward.

See Also Large-muscle Activities:

The heart's pacemaker is located where the superior vena cava, the large vein carrying blood to the heart from the upper parts of the body, joins the right atrium. It is made up of a col¬lection of muscle cells, blood vessels, and nerves and is technically known as the sinoatrial node, or the node of Keith and Flack, the two men who discovered it in 1907. Every second, or even more often, an electrical impulse originates in the pacemaker and travels down over the two atria in a wave of about Vio of a millivolt, causing the atrial muscle to contract.

Paralleling these large-muscle activities is a gradual increase in the effective use of the hands. From the aimless hand movements which he makes at birth, the baby progresses to squeezing an object, then to grasp¬ing it with his hand, and finally to using his thumb and forefinger. By the end of the sixth month, the majority of children who have been studied can grasp an object of suitable size, hold it, and let go of it. By the end of the ninth month, practically all babies can accurately reach for and pick up an object. "Give and Take" becomes a favorite game.

On The Other Hand See Relief Activities Overseas:

Canteens served soldiers at camps, stopover points, ports of embarkation, and overseas. Ambulance sections were staffed and supplied for the Army, nurses recruited, and base hospital units organized. Ex¬tensive civilian relief activities overseas cared for thousands of refugees and ill persons. In late 1917 educators asked the Red Cross for a program through which the nation's youth could make its contribution to the war effort; the result was the American Junior Red Cross, founded by the proc¬lamation of President Woodrow Wilson.

In painting, the term refers to the appearance of projection and solidity in represented objects. In physical geography, relief is the term ap¬plied to undulations or surface elevations of the terrain. In sculpture, it is the projection of a figure from the plane surface to which the figure is at¬tached. According to the degree of prominence, it is known as high relief or alto-relievo, half relief or mezzo-relievo, and low relief (bas-relief or basso-relievo).
