Cabbage Family:

Cabbage Family HARLEQUIN BUG, har'li-kwan, a large bright red and black spotted insect found in the south¬ern United States and Mexico. The harlequin bug, Mugantia histrionica, is also known as the cabbage bug because it is an important pest of cabbage and other members of the cabbage family, including cauliflower, collards, Brussels sprouts, and turnips. In addition, it sometimes also invades tomatoes, potatoes, as well as other vegetable crops.

Pak choi (Brassica chinensis), which is also Chinese cabbage, is looser and more floppy. In China cabbage is frequently used in soups. A hot leaf mustard, or mustard greens (Brassica nigra), is pickled in salt and vinegar. This species is also culti¬vated for its seeds.

See Also Crow Family:

All three birds are cunning, mischievous, and intelligent, the crow family and the magpie being the most intelligent of the three. The crow family and the magpie are much more imitative, though the jay is clever at reproducing other bird noises. The crow family is excellent at imitating the human voice, though the magpie surpasses it. The magpie learns to repeat words and whole sentences.

OK, a European crow family (Corvus frugile-J, having the base of the bill, forehead and ' part of the throat naked. The rook pos-i a voice much less harsh than that of the |. Rooks are gregarious in habits, and nest at communities or rookeries, thus differ-from other species of the family.

On The Other Hand See Percussion Family:

About 1807, the invention of percussion powder by Alexander John Forsyth, a Scottish clergyman, led to a change in the ignition of the propellant. In 1845, March of the Royal Arsenal surgery introduced the percussion tube in lieu of the quick match, using the type of percussion powder invented by Forsyth. This tube was ignited by striking with a hammer fixed on the gun and brought down on the tube by the pull of the lanyard. Following this step the friction tube was introduced in 1867, detonation being effected by means of a roughened bar passing through a detonating composition.

GONG, a musical instrument of the percussion family. The gong is a flat bronze or brass disk at least 3 feet (about 1 meter) in diameter, with the edge turned over at a right angle. It is sus¬pended by a cord in a standing wood or metal frame and is played by being struck with a felt mallet or some other type of padded hammer. The gong has an indefinite pitch and a deep, rich, reverberating tone.
