Apartment House Gives:

Apartment House Gives Similarly, in large urban areas the temperature is al¬most constantly five, ten, or more degrees higher than in the corresponding rural areas, largely because of heat given off in man-generated activity. To cite one example, the air condi¬tioning for an apartment house gives off much more heat to the outside world than is removed from inside the house—a phe¬nomenon caused by inefficiencies in the system.

The John Hancock Center is a combination parking, office, and apartment structure having divided into about 800,000 sq ft (74,320 sq m) of commercial space and parking, 1 mil¬lion sq ft (92,900 sq m) of office space, and 1 million sq ft of apartment space. The structure, rectangular in plan, is 1,105 ft (337 m) high and tapers from 263 x 165 ft (80 x 50 m) at the base to 160 x 100 ft (49 x 30 m) at the top. The wind forces for which the design was made varied from 25 Ib/sq ft (122 kg/sq m) at the base to 58 Ib/sq ft (283 kg/sq m) at the top of the building.

Financial proposals must be raised in the Commons, which has the right ultimately to over-ide the House of Lords in matters concerning inance. Bills other than appropriation may orig-nate in either house, but the House of Lords :annot reject absolutely a bill on which the Com-nons is determined. At the most, it can delay its )assage for a year.

House of Lords. The House of Lords is both a supreme court of law and a chamber of the legislature. Its judicial function is quite distinct from its legislative one. When acting in its capacity as the final court of appeal in Britain, the house employs only "law lords," most of whom are elevated to the house specifically for the purpose. In its capacity as a legislative chamber, the house is composed of life peers and hereditary peers. Life peers possess titles that confer a right to sit, but which are not inheritable, whereas hereditary peers owe their seats to the inheri¬tance of a title automatically conferring the right to sit.

On The Other Hand See House Makes:

Natural light from the back of the house makes its way into the hallway thanks to glass bricks fitted at the end. These also draw your eye along the corridor and into the main part of the house, helping to lead you in. To guide your way when walking upstairs, there are uplighters fitted in some of the stair treads. They create a wash of light up the wall, which looks warm and attractive.

There are also notable examples of with an atrium (an interior court surrounded 1$ rooms). Some of these are of relatively ancie construction, such as the House with the Wood Partition, the Samnite House, and the House -5^51 Neptune and Amphitrite. Of unusual design £jt(,er the great villas in the southern part of the ci including the House of Argo, the House of t Hostelry, the House of the Mosaic Atrium, a the House of the Deer. In these houses the t ditional plan is modified. The peristilia (cole naded courtyards), the gardens, reception haj and other rooms were oriented toward the sot in order to take advantage of the view towa the sea.
