Admit Children:

Admit Children When I admit children I tell every parent of the provisions made by the education authority in case of need. Many are ignorant of these, others think they amount to charity, others again feel that to take advantage of them is scrounging and so is a cause for embarrassment. I have managed in all but a few cases to talk them out of this attitude, and to make them feel pride in a system which is there to provide the means to a full and trouble-free education for their children.

A twelve-year-old boy said, "I like being myself. I wouldn't want to be anything else." Children seem to reach a peak of self-acceptance around eleven or twelve years. They admit their strengths and weaknesses as in the following quotations from two eleven-year-old boys. The first wrote:

See Also Programs Of Children And Youth:

Tion takes place in the home, on the playground, at movies, and when they are listening to radio programs, viewing television, or reading comics. The time spent on radio and television, the various programs available, the favor¬ite programs of children and youth, parents and teachers, the possible val¬ues, and the effect of television upon pupils' academic success have been studied and reviewed by Witty (174, 1958). During a week some children spend as much time viewing television as they spend in school. They spend more time in viewing TV than in any other single activity except sleeping. Obviously this use of time crowds out voluntary reading for some children.

On The Other Hand See Many Children Are Able:

There is an inherent positive value in childhood itself. This attitude, according to Margaret Lowenfeld, is more characteristic of English culture than of the United States. English Many children are able depend less on adults; they live more in a world of Many children are able of different ages. Adults do not generally enter this world except when something happens and the Many children are able do not know what to do. Many children are able and parents are absorbed, each in their own concerns. Consequently, parents do not discuss before Many children are able adult problems which they consider outside the understanding of Many children are able.
