A Young Locksmith: In 1504, in Niirnberg, Germany, the first por¬table timepiece to be carried on the person was constructed by Peter Henlein, a young locksmith under the supervision of an abbot in the cathedral where he had sought sanctuary from a mo which unjustly accused him of thievery and mui der. This first watch, which took two years t construct, was a drum-shaped timepiece, si inches in height and made entirely of iron; i was spring driven—the great innovation whic set it apart from all clocks.
Gestation takes 16 days; 7-15 in litter; young born pink, naked, and blind. Do not disturb young or mother for at least a week after birth; if disturbed mother will either kill and eat the young or ne¬glect them and allow them to die. After 3 weeks, remove young from mother; otherwise, mother fights with them and often kills them. Sexes should be separated before young reach maturity at 43 days.See Also Independent Young Master:It is more probable that Raphael, by this date a fully independent young master, was for a brief time Perugino's colleague; at all events he showed henceforth a detailed knowledge and study of the latter's work. The final painting of this phase, the Sposalizio (Marriage of the Vir¬gin, 1504; Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan), gives the best possible opportunity for comparison with Perugino, because it is closely based in composi¬tion on the latter's altarpiece of the same subject (now in Caen).
There was still business for the original two-masted rig, while three-masters were coming in gradually. The pioneer four-master, the William L. White, was built in 1880, followed by the first five-master, the Governor Amcs in 1888, and the six-master George W. Wells in 1900. One seven-master, the Thomas W. Lawson, was built in 1902 and wrecked five years later.
On The Other Hand See Characteristics Of Young Children:Children recognized as gifted may be superior in abstract verbal ability or may possess special talents or abilities. It has been estimated that in the United States there are about one hundred thousand children with IQ's of 130 and above. A large proportion of these gifted children are not identified, especially in the lower socioeconomic groups. In the absence of psychological services, many gifted children can be recognized by the characteristics of young children already described (see Chap. 15). They show these characteristics of young children at an earlier age than the majority of children; they are "old for their years."
